The Last Great Time War (requested by anon)
With the exception of a very few survivors, the Time Lords and the Daleks disappeared from time and space. Gallifrey was destroyed in a silent flash as bright as a sun. Its annihilation was so profound it stretched deep into the past and far into the future. The Cruciform fell when Gallifrey was destroyed. The blast was so powerful the universe convulsed as planets, systems and galaxies were obliterated. (x)
#let’s not talk about this #let’s not talk about the planet populated by actual gods who could hold all of time and space in their hands #of a race that travesed dimensions with a skip and a jump and a laugh that echoed through universes #whose joy at their power curdled into greed #and of the doctor himself; the lonely violent god forced to look upon his own kind #the man who swallowed the abyss within himself with the knowledge that it would weigh within him for all eternity #who put out the stars before they burned out the rest of the galaxies (thymoss)

THIS IS NOT A DRILL I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
STEVEN MOFFAT HAS CONFIRMED THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY EPISODE WILL CONTAIN ALL 11 DOCTORS.
LITERALLY HYPERVENTILATING. TEARS IN EYES. VERKLEMPT. TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES.
“As of today Steven Moffat has confirmed that he is completing a script that will feature the current Doctor, Matt Smith, facing a foe so great that he will need assistance from all ten of the previous TARDIS inhabitants. That’s right, rumors say Eccleston is in!!! The producers have gotten agreements from all living actors who have ever played the Doctor; Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. With some studio special effects they have even resurrected William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee.”
So psyched to see how he handles McGann and Colin Baker. Both have really done a lot of work in audio over the past decade to make their kind of lackluster original stints into really compelling takes on the character.
This is going to be ridiculous, but I’m really excited to see it and I hope it introduces new fans to the wonders of the older Doctors!
|today i went on a brief 1960s TV nostalgia and talked at Hillary about The Avengers, as in, the Mrs. Emma Peel Avengers, THE REAL AVENGERS, and we discovered something important about French television.|
|Caitlin:||wait apparently in france "the avengers" was called "Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir"|
|Caitlin:||bowler hat and leather boots!|
|Caitlin:||that about sums up my interest in the show tbh|
|Caitlin:||good job, france|
|Caitlin:||A++ would watch|
|Hillary:||and that's why any french people watch anything|
|Hillary:||like good job marketing to your target population|
|Caitlin:||all tv shows in france are just titled after the characters' fashion choices|
|Hillary:||supernatural is just called "plaid and denim"|
|Caitlin:||star trek is "tight futuristic jumpsuits"|
|Caitlin:||suits is actually "suits and sloppy aspiring-to-be suits"|
|Caitlin:||you would think they would have left that one alone|
|Hillary:||it's important to be accurate|
|Caitlin:||but they know what's up with mike's fashion choices|
|Hillary:||also they're french|
|Hillary:||yeah they are Not Good Choices|
|Caitlin:||doctor who would have to change names with each regeneration|
|Caitlin:||the fourth doctor would be "you have got to be kidding me with that scarf"|
|Caitlin:||the sixth doctor would be "no thank you"|
|Hillary:||I just laughed the ugliest laugh btw|
|Caitlin:||good because i just had to google doctors until i found the ugliest one|
|Caitlin:||remind me to post this convo to tumblr later|
|Caitlin:||obviously everyone needs to know that the french named the avenger "bowler hat and leather boots"|
|Hillary:||that's my favorite thing of ever|
|Hillary:||what the fuck|
|Hillary:||why would you do that|
|Caitlin:||honestly, if you watch like 5 minutes of the show, those are the two most important things about it|
|Caitlin:||avengers is a stupid name, they're spies, not avengers, GOD ENGLAND|
|Caitlin:||it got better|
|Caitlin:||the german title is "Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone"|
|Caitlin:||"with umbrella, charm, and bowler"|
|Hillary:||good job germany|
#yes can we please #because when you think about it rory is at that point around 2000 years old and the doctor is 900-1100 years old #think about how heavily time is weighing on the doctor and how it changes him #rory isn’t like that #to be fair rory isn’t exactly the last of his kind #rory doesn’t have the same self hate the doctor does #rory is human now #but those 2000 years of waiting as a nestene duplicate didn’t make him dark #and he was alone that entire time #the whole damn time #and we see how being alone changes the doctor #how angry he becomes #how self-loathing #and then you have to think to yourself #what makes them so different #and you realize it’s amy #of course it’s amy #rory could endure all that time alone because he would always have amy in the end #but the doctor doesn’t have that #he has no one waiting for him and no one to wait for #he will always be alone because in the end they all leave him #they all break his heart
“You seem familiar. Have we met before?”
“No. Not yet.”
just a doodle
Aradia had so many questions. What was this strange blue box? Who was this man in an admittedly dashing trenchcoat? Exactly how big was the inside of that thing?
In the end, she decided on one.
“What are you doing here?”
The human- although was he human? He seemed off somehow- smiled.
“Oh, you know. Exploring, living, floating around in a temporal police box in the middle of the null space in the universe. The usual. We haven’t met, I don’t believe. I’m the Doctor.”
“Nice to meet you Doctor. I’m Aradia, Aradia Megido.”
“Ooh, that’s a bit dark, isn’t it? Course, so’s everything around here, we are in space I suppose. Nice pajamas though, I might pick up a set for myself. But I digress.”
He leaned forward out the door of the floating box, a grin forming on his face.
“Would you like to go on an adventure?”
For some reason, the prospect sounded incredibly tempting. For a moment, visions of other worlds, wonders beyond imagining, just exploring and living and floating around in a box which she decided she should call the TARDIS-
Aradia shook her head.
“Sorry, Doctor. Something terrible is coming, and my friends are relying on me. I can’t abandon them to die and live on myself, you know?”
A pained look flashed across the man’s face. “No, no you can’t very well do that, can you?” He reached out to put his hands on her shoulders. “Listen. You fight for the people you love. You make sure they know how…how you feel. That is the greatest adventure.”
Aradia looked up and pulled him into a bear hug. She couldn’t explain why later, but she distinctly remembered afterward her whispering “I’m sure she knows.” They broke apart, both somewhat teary-eyed. The door shut, and just like that he was gone.
WHY WOULD YOU WRITE THAT ;_;
So often, modernizations and movie adaptations get a bad rap, and those who love the heart and soul of the original works fume at them with just indignation. But every once in a while, the adaptation isn’t bad. Every so often, they bring old worlds to new people, and that’s the best thing there is.
God bless this post.
