So psyched to see how he handles McGann and Colin Baker. Both have really done a lot of work in audio over the past decade to make their kind of lackluster original stints into really compelling takes on the character.

This is going to be ridiculous, but I’m really excited to see it and I hope it introduces new fans to the wonders of the older Doctors!

#yes can we please #because when you think about it rory is at that point around 2000 years old and the doctor is 900-1100 years old #think about how heavily time is weighing on the doctor and how it changes him #rory isn’t like that #to be fair rory isn’t exactly the last of his kind #rory doesn’t have the same self hate the doctor does #rory is human now #but those 2000 years of waiting as a nestene duplicate didn’t make him dark #and he was alone that entire time #the whole damn time #and we see how being alone changes the doctor #how angry he becomes #how self-loathing #and then you have to think to yourself #what makes them so different #and you realize it’s amy #of course it’s amy #rory could endure all that time alone because he would always have amy in the end #but the doctor doesn’t have that #he has no one waiting for him and no one to wait for #he will always be alone because in the end they all leave him #they all break his heart

Doctor<>Aradia

Aradia had so many questions. What was this strange blue box? Who was this man in an admittedly dashing trenchcoat? Exactly how big was the inside of that thing?

In the end, she decided on one.

“What are you doing here?”

The human- although was he human? He seemed off somehow- smiled.

“Oh, you know. Exploring, living, floating around in a temporal police box in the middle of the null space in the universe. The usual. We haven’t met, I don’t believe. I’m the Doctor.”

“Nice to meet you Doctor. I’m Aradia, Aradia Megido.”

“Ooh, that’s a bit dark, isn’t it? Course, so’s everything around here, we are in space I suppose. Nice pajamas though, I might pick up a set for myself. But I digress.”

He leaned forward out the door of the floating box, a grin forming on his face.

“Would you like to go on an adventure?”

For some reason, the prospect sounded incredibly tempting. For a moment, visions of other worlds, wonders beyond imagining, just exploring and living and floating around in a box which she decided she should call the TARDIS-

Aradia shook her head.

“Sorry, Doctor. Something terrible is coming, and my friends are relying on me. I can’t abandon them to die and live on myself, you know?”

A pained look flashed across the man’s face. “No, no you can’t very well do that, can you?” He reached out to put his hands on her shoulders. “Listen. You fight for the people you love. You make sure they know how…how you feel. That is the greatest adventure.”

Aradia looked up and pulled him into a bear hug. She couldn’t explain why later, but she distinctly remembered afterward her whispering “I’m sure she knows.” They broke apart, both somewhat teary-eyed. The door shut, and just like that he was gone.

So often, modernizations and movie adaptations get a bad rap, and those who love the heart and soul of the original works fume at them with just indignation. But every once in a while, the adaptation isn’t bad. Every so often, they bring old worlds to new people, and that’s the best thing there is.
