tracked tags now show the most popular posts

which means if you track a tag for new posts you actually cant see any new posts because the same popular posts are only displayed making tracking tags 100% redundant

tumblr has literally just broken an entire feature for no reason

i don’t know if this is actually true?? i just checked and tracked tags seem… fine…?

It was apparently a bug and they fixed it! yay tumblr!

PSA: if you have tumblr linked to facebook, posts you reply to might show up in your “recent activity” on facebook. not sure if there’s a way to change that setting.  

i just saw chris’s reply to my post (now private) on my news feed and i… really don’t feel comfortable with that, especially with my random angst text posts haha. so, unless i hear from somebody that there’s a setting people can change to opt out of this, please don’t reply to my posts if you link your tumblr to your facebook account.

i’ll also be disallowing replies from people i don’t follow back - send me asks instead, sorry! we could become friends!

so you want to post a cool pic but don’t know where it’s from:

right click on the image, copy URL, go to google, go to image search, click camera on the right, paste in URL, click through pages until you find a website that isn’t notorious for reposting images without credit (tumblr, imgur, weheartit.)

Put as close to the original artist’s website as you can get in the “content source” field on your tumblr post (under the extra options button at the top of the new post, not 100% sure where it is in new tumblr.)

put description and artist’s name under picture, tag picture with relevant tags and artist’s name.

saucenao: similar to google reverse image search but better for sourcing Japanese fanart etc.

will come back and update with screenshots after work if this is confusing. I’d send this as a message but someone else was asking about it too and there are always people who don’t know. hope it’s helpful and no offense meant. I don’t actually get that mad about most source less images, it’s just a nice and easy thing to do that makes your blog more informative and more courteous to content-creators.

This is really interesting! Reminds me of a paper I did freshman year on internet speak and terminology and a lot of the discussion going on when Lolcats/lolspeak became popular. I don’t know if Tumblrspeak should be celebrated as anything special - it’s sort of just a thing that happens in any space/social group - but this post does a good job laying out what the main features are. 

I took on Tumblrspeak at first casually and then intentionally in order to make my style more like the other tumblrs in my fandom social circle, basically. I still use it with intent and try to keep it to posts that fit that style (or when I’m too lazy to capitalize.) I worry about it slipping into my regular writing though.

yay! good tips. I wasn’t too worried about not being able to learn and adapt, but I still think it’s a silly change. I like getting away from the dash to make posts! my dash is suffocating!
